Replacing a Drop-In Sink

You can freshen up your kitchen by replacing that tired old kitchen sink with a nice new drop-in sink. A "drop-in" sink is also called "self-rimming" or "surface mounted" sink. These sinks set on top of the countertop such as a plastic laminate or ceramic tile surface. Add a new faucet such as a single lever disc faucet, and you have a new beautiful, shining work center.A drop-in sink is called a drop-in because it, well, drops into a hole cut out in the countertop. Sinks that fasten from the bottom and attach to solid surface countertops such as granite or synthetic tops are called undermount sinks since they mount under the countertop. Undermount sinks cannot be used with countertops such as plastic laminate or ceramic tile (that's why there is the the self-rimming drop-in sink).
